Hij heeft een voorkeur voor houtskool, grafiet en Chinese inkt. Doorheen zijn artistieke carrière realiseert hij verschillende tekeningen met een beperkt aantal motieven. Daarvan is het hoofd het allerbelangrijkste. De ronde of ovale vorm van het hoofd staat bij Claus voor beweging ten opzichte van het statische lichaam. In deze tekening is er geen lichaam te bespeuren. De relatie tussen lichaam en geest is een constante doorheen het oeuvre van Luc Claus. Nog een ander contrast in zijn oeuvre is dat tussen het witte blad en de zwarte grafiet of inkt.
