Hij was een van de ultra-radicale enragés van de revolutie, een vurige criticus van het christendom die een van de leiders was van de ontkerstening van Frankrijk. Zijn radicale standpunten leidden ertoe dat hij vervreemdde van Maximilien Robespierre, en hij werd gearresteerd op beschuldiging van contrarevolutionair te zijn en geëxecuteerd. Pierre Gaspard Anaxagore Chaumette (1763-1794) est un homme politique français de la période révolutionnaire qui fut président de la Commune de Paris et joua un rôle de premier plan dans l'instauration du règne de la Terreur. Il était l'un des enragés ultra-radicaux de la révolution, un ardent critique du christianisme qui fut l'un des leaders de la déchristianisation de la France.
