Rechts herkent men de imposante acacia die nog steeds in het park groeit. De bouwsels rechts en de doorkijk in de verte zijn erbij gefantaseerd en werden misschien ontleend aan een andere omgeving. Om het effect van een donkere winterlucht te krijgen, liet Ensor de koperplaat inbijten door zwavelzuur. De grappige silhouetten van de schaatsende figuurtjes doen denken aan de gravure “De schaatsers op het meer Ladoga” van Gustave Doré, afgebeeld in de Histoire dramatique, pittoresque et caricaturale de la Sainte Russie (Parijs, 1854). De 2de staat van de prent “De schaatsenrijders” werd in 1906 afgedrukt in het album van de Antwerpse kunstenaarsvereniging Kunst van Heden. A droite, on reconnaît l'imposant acacia qui pousse encore dans le parc. Les structures sur la droite et la vue au loin sont imaginaires et peuvent avoir été empruntées à un autre environnement. Pour obtenir l'effet d'un ciel d'hiver sombre, Ensor a fait imprégner la plaque de cuivre d'acide sulfurique. Les silhouettes amusantes des patineurs rappellent la gravure "Les patineurs sur le lac Ladoga" de Gustave Doré, décrite dans l'Histoire dramatique, pittoresque et caricaturale de la Sainte Russie (Paris, 1854). Le 2e état de l'estampe "Les Patineurs" a été imprimé en 1906 dans l'album de l'association d'artistes anversoise L’Art contemporain.
