In 1891 herwerkte Ensor hetzelfde thema in olieverf (Oostende, Mu.ZEE, inv. 1975/711). In het schilderij en misschien ook reeds voor de ets, gold de landschapsperceptie van William Turner als voorbeeld. Door het werken in drogenaald bezit de eerste staat van de ets picturale effecten, een effect dat nog versterkt wordt door de intense lichtwerking. La gravure "Le Christ apaisant la tempête" est étroitement liée, par son thème et son style, à la série "Les Auréoles du Christ", également créée vers 1885-1886.
