De ets “De pisser” ontleende hij aan een tekening die in 1878 in het tijdschrift L’Art gereproduceerd werd. In de achtergrond van de ets ‘portretteerde’ hij in een kinderlijke tekenstijl een kunstenaar aan het werk; daarboven staat het opschrift Ensor est un fou. Mogelijk wilde Ensor zijn critici een veeg uit de pan geven. De figuur van de pisser komt ook voor op een schetsboekblad (Antwerpen, Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, inv. 2712/151a). Ensor s'inspire régulièrement des dessins et des gravures de Jacques Callot. Il a tiré la gravure "Le Pisseur" d'un dessin qui a été reproduit en 1878 dans la revue L'Art. À l'arrière-plan de la gravure, il a "représenté" un artiste au travail dans un style enfantin ; au-dessus, on peut lire la légende Ensor est un fou. Peut-être qu'Ensor voulait passer un savon à ses détracteurs. La figure du pisseux apparaît également dans une feuille de carnet de croquis (Anvers, Musée royal des Beaux-Arts, inv. 2712/151a). Ensor regularly drew inspiration from drawings and prints by Jacques Callot. He derived the etching "The Pisser" from a drawing that was reproduced in 1878 in the magazine L'Art. In the background of the etching, he 'portrayed' an artist at work in a childlike style; above it is the caption Ensor est un fou. Possibly Ensor wanted to give his critics a dressing-down.
