De compositie is stevig met grote kleurvlakken en met verticale en schuin oplopende lijnen opgebouwd, maar vertoont tegelijk het dynamische karakter dat herinnert aan zijn Hollandse periode tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Die sfeer van onrust dankt het werk aan de levendige en haast impulsieve toetsen, het donkere koloriet en het opflakkerend wit in de wolkenlucht. Ce paysage est un bon exemple de l'évolution stylistique de Gustave De Smet dans les années 1930 et 1940. La composition est solidement construite avec de grandes surfaces de couleur et des lignes verticales et diagonales, mais elle présente en même temps le caractère dynamique qui rappelle sa période hollandaise pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. L'œuvre doit cette atmosphère d'agitation aux touches vives et presque impulsives, à la palette de couleurs sombres et au blanc vacillant des nuages. This landscape is a good example of the evolution of Gustave De Smet’s style in the 1930s. It has a robust composition with large areas of colour and is built up using lines rising vertically and at an angle, but at the same time it has a dynamism reminiscent of his Dutch period during the First World War.
