Pijl en boog zijn de typische attributen van de liefdesgod. Een schouderriem, versierd met vlinders, symbool van lichtzinnigheid en onstandvastige liefde, verbergt zijn sekse. Een klassiek landschap dient als decor. Eros, in een bevallige, schijnbaar argeloze houding, bezit noch de goddelijke uitstraling van de antieke afbeeldingen, noch de vrijmoedige zinnelijkheid die we op 18de-eeuwse voorstellingen aantreffen. Joseph Paelinck a peint Eros avec le sourire innocent d'un garçon timide, qui pose pour le tableau avec un arc, un carquois et des ailes. L'arc et la flèche sont les attributs typiques du dieu de l'amour. Une bandoulière ornée de papillons, symbole de frivolité et d'amour instable, cache son sexe. Un paysage classique sert de toile de fond. Eros, dans une pose gracieuse et apparemment insoupçonnable, n'a ni l'aura divine des images antiques ni la franche sensualité que l'on retrouve dans les représentations du XVIIIe siècle. A shoulder strap decorated with butterflies, a symbol of frivolity and unsteady love, hides his sex. A classical landscape serves as the backdrop.
