Hun namen zijn echter niet bekend. Ook van dit meisje in De laatste pop weten we niet wie model stond. Er hangt een zweem van melancholie over haar, de laatste pop betekent immers afscheid nemen van de kindertijd. De ongekunstelde eenvoud en zuiverheid van kinderen bekoorde de kunstenaar. Die eenvoud en een zekere onbeholpenheid vinden we ook terug in zijn manier van tekenen en schilderen, die aanleunt bij die van volksprenten en kindertekeningen. Hoewel Tytgat omstreeks 1924 opgenomen werd in de kring van de Vlaamse expressionisten rondom het tijdschrift Sélection, behield hij deze voor hem kenmerkende wat naïeve teken- en schilderwijze. Edgard Tytgat a peint le portrait de nombreux enfants dont nous ignorons toutefois le nom. Ceci vaut également pour la fillette reproduite sur le tableau La dernière poupée. Une ambiance mélancolique se dégage du personnage car recevoir sa dernière poupée symbolise la fin imminente de l’enfance. La simplicité et la pureté naturelles de l’enfance enchantaient l’artiste. Cette même simplicité ainsi qu’une certaine maladresse se retrouvent également dans sa façon de dessiner et de peindre, un mode proche de l’imagerie populaire et du dessin d’enfant. Bien qu’il ait adhéré au cercle d’expressionnistes flamands rassemblés autour de la revue Sélection vers 1924, Tytgat continua d’appliquer sa technique de dessin et picturale légèrement naïve si caractéristique. Edgard Tytgat portrayed several children, though their names are not known. Nor do we know who the model for this girl in The Last Doll was. She has a melancholy air, and of course the ‘last doll’ signifies a farewell to childhood. The unaffected simplicity and purity of children beguiled Tytgat. We also see this simplicity and a certain awkwardness in his way of painting and drawing, which has some affinity with popular illustrations and children’s drawings. Although in about 1924 Tytgat was admitted to the circle of Flemish expressionists associated with the magazine Sélection, he retained this characteristically rather naive style of drawing and painting. Edgard Tytgat porträtierte mehrmals Kinder. Ihre Namen sind jedoch nicht bekannt, und auch bei Die letzte Puppe wissen wir nicht, wer Modell stand. Ein Hauch von Melancholie umgibt das Mädchen, deutet doch die letzte Puppe auf den Abschied von der Kindheit hin. Die ungekünstelte Schlichtheit und Reinheit von Kindern bezauberte den Künstler. Diese Einfachheit und eine gewisse Unbeholfenheit finden wir auch in seiner Art zu zeichnen und malen wieder, die mit volkstümlichen Bilderbögen und Kinderzeichnungen vergleichbar ist.
