Door mythologische verwijzingen achterwege te laten, focust Serruys op de seksuele bevrijding van de moderne vrouw, die zich vrij, genietend en zonder preutsheid openstelt. Wanneer Serruys voor het eerst erotische sculpturen maakt, is ze al een gevestigde kunstenaar en salonhouder in Parijs. Ze ontwikkelt deze beeldjes in de intimiteit van haar huwelijk met schrijver Pierre Mille, met wie ze in 1909 trouwt. Haar huwelijk biedt haar de ervaringen om haar ideeën over gender en lichamelijkheid verder vorm te geven. Serruys stelt haar sensuele bozzetti nooit publiek tentoon. Dit werk uit de privécollectie van haar vriendin en collega-kunstenaar Anna De Weert komt via een schenking van haar erfgenamen in de collectie van het MSK terecht. Dans ce bozzetto – une première ébauche en trois dimensions – Yvonne Serruys représente une scène érotique entre une femme et un homme. En laissant tomber les références mythologiques, Serruys met l’accent sur la libération sexuelle de la femme moderne, qui s’adonne librement et sans pudibonderie au plaisir. Lorsque Serruys réalise ses premières sculptures érotiques, elle est déjà une artiste établie et salonnière à Paris. Elle façonne ces petites sculptures dans l’intimité de son mariage avec l’écrivain Pierre Mille, qu’elle épouse en 1909. Son mariage lui procure les expériences qui lui permettent de donner forme à ses idées sur le genre et la sensualité. Serruys n’expose jamais ses bozzetti érotiques en public. Provenant de la collection privée de son amie et consœur artiste Anna De Weert, cette œuvre est entrée dans les collections du musée grâce au legs De Weert. In this bozzetto, a three-dimensional sketch, Yvonne Serruys depicts an erotic scene between a woman and a man. By omitting mythological references, Serruys focuses on the sexual liberation of modern women, who open themselves up freely, enjoying and without prudishness. When Serruys first creates erotic sculptures, she is already an established artist and salon host in Paris. She develops these figurines in the intimacy of her marriage to writer Pierre Mille, whom she marries in 1909. Her marriage provides her with the experiences to further shape her ideas about gender and physicality. Serruys never exhibits her sensual bozzetti publicly.
