Zijn beroemdste beeldengroep ‘De fontein der geknielden’ bestaat uit vijf identieke, in zichzelf gekeerde, naakte jongelingen die geknield zitten op rand van een waterbekken (inv. 1982-E). Het concept ervan dateert uit 1898 en het enige gipsmodel wordt bewaard in het Museum voor Schone Kunsten van Gent. Dit blad toont het frêle naakte lichaam van een jongeling en het is uitgevoerd in een uiterst zachte tekenstijl met omfloerste omtrekken. De jongeling omhelst zichzelf enerzijds om zich te beschermen maar ook uit eigenliefde. Zijn blik kijkt angstvallig en schuchter naar de toeschouwer. Omarming en verstrengeling zien in verscheidene beelden van George Minne. Deze tekening vertoont grote gelijkenis met ‘De kleine gekwetste’ een beeld dat de kunstenaar maakte in 1889. De expressiviteit en spirituele kracht van Minnes werk maakten grote indruk op de symbolistische dichters zoals Maeterlinck, Le Roy en Verhaeren, van wie Minne enkele dichtbundels illustreerde. Le thème de la jeunesse nue se retrouve fréquemment dans les sculptures et les dessins de Minne. Son groupe de sculptures le plus célèbre, "La Fontaine des agenouillés", comprend cinq jeunes gens nus, identiques et introvertis, agenouillés au bord d'un bassin d'eau (inv. 1982-E). Le concept remonte à 1898 et l'unique modèle en plâtre est conservé au Musée des Beaux-Arts de Gand. Cette feuille montre le corps nu et frêle d'un jeune et elle est exécutée dans un style de dessin extrêmement doux avec des contours enveloppés. Le jeune s'enlace d'une part pour se protéger, mais aussi par amour de soi. Son regard se pose sur le spectateur avec anxiété et timidité. Embrasser et enlacer se retrouvent dans plusieurs images de George Minne. Ce dessin présente une grande ressemblance avec "Le petit blessé", une image que l'artiste a réalisée en 1889. L'expressivité et la puissance spirituelle de l'œuvre de Minne ont fait une grande impression sur les poètes symbolistes tels que Maeterlinck, Le Roy et Verhaeren, dont Minne a illustré la poésie dans plusieurs recueils.
