Vooral in zijn talrijke landschappen en zeegezichten hanteerde hij een directe en soms informele stijl, zoals in De boerderij. De verf is zwaar aangebracht en ruw geborsteld in brede penseelstreken. Permeke beperkte zich vaak tot enkele kleuren. Hier gebruikte hij overwegend groene en donkerbruine tinten met een enkel wit accent. De bomen op de voorgrond domineren het landelijke tafereel waardoor het schilderij ondanks het eerder kleine formaat een monumentaal karakter krijgt. À partir du milieu des années 1920, Constant Permeke abandonne progressivement le style angulaire de ses premières années d'après-guerre. En particulier dans ses nombreux paysages et marines, il a adopté un style direct et parfois informel, comme dans La Ferme. La peinture est fortement appliquée et grossièrement brossée en larges coups de pinceau. Permeke se limitait souvent à quelques couleurs. Ici, il a utilisé des teintes prédominantes de vert et de brun foncé avec un seul accent blanc. Les arbres au premier plan dominent la scène rurale, donnant à la peinture un caractère monumental malgré sa taille plutôt réduite. From the middle of the 1920s, Constant Permeke gradually abandoned the angular style that characterised his work of the early postwar years. In his numerous landscapes and seascapes especially, his style was direct and occasionally informal, as in The Farm. The paint is applied thickly, in coarse, wide brushstrokes. Permeke often limits himself to just a few colours. Here he uses mainly green and dark brown tones with an occasional white accent.
