Daarnaast was hij ook actief als graveur en kunsthistoricus. Zo publiceerde hij tussen 1835 en 1847 enkele kunsthistorische werken, waaronder het Vademecum der schilders. Félix De Vigne était membre d'une famille d'artistes gantois et est devenu particulièrement célèbre en tant que peintre de scènes historiques. Certains d'entre eux, tels qu’une Foire franche à Gand au Moyen Âge, appartiennent à la collection du Musée des Beaux-Arts de Gand. Il s'est finalement spécialisé dans le genre du portrait.
