Onderaan liggen nog een drietal vogels, twee vinken en mogelijk een sijs. Vanuit een verborgen lichtbron is het gevogelte op theatrale wijze geaccentueerd waarbij de waaiervormige vleugel van de patrijs opvalt. Het tafereel wordt gezien als een jachtstilleven, omdat het voorgestelde gevogelte als buit afkomstig is van jacht in het wild. Het schilderij is op koper geschilderd. Koper is als drager een duurzamer materiaal dan hout of linnen en creëert een glanzend effect. Ici, une perdrix est suspendue à l’intérieur d’une niche en marbre. The painting depicts a dead partridge hanging inside a marbled alcove. At the base of the picture are three birds: two finches and what is possibly a siskin (a type of small songbird). A hidden light source illuminates the poultry in a theatrical manner, and accentuates the fan-shaped wing of the partridge. This scene is viewed as a hunting still life, because the poultry represents the spoils of a hunt in the wild.
