Een officiële opening heeft nooit plaatsgevonden. Wel bezocht koningin Wilhelmina op 23 juni 1911 de nieuwe Munt. Na haar bezoek aan de werkruimten sloeg de koningin het eerste gouden tientje met de nieuwe beeldenaar, naar een ontwerp J.C. Wienecke, de Rijks stempelsnijder. Hij ontwierp toen ook deze plaquette, die het smelten en gieten van edelmetaal voorstelt. De koningin ontving een exemplaar, met op de keerzijde een wapenschild en een aangepast omschrift, als aandenken aan haar bezoek. Op het Salon van de Medaille te Gent in 1913, waar deze medaille werd aangekocht, stelde de kunstenaar eveneens een zilveren exemplaar tentoon.
