De stad richtte een wedstrijd in voor de gravure van een gouden prijsmedaille. Ze moest een diameter van 40 mm hebben en de voorzijde moest een allegorische voorstelling van het glorieuze kunstverleden van Venetië uitbeelden alsook de tekst "Ve Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte della Città di Venezia. 1903". Op de achterzijde werd de verplichte tekst "Gran Premio della Città di Venezia" voorzien en ook een vrije ruimte voor de gravure van de naam van de laureaat. Deze tweedelige plaquette in brons, bestaande uit een losse voor- en achterzijde, is het ontwerp van Stephan Schwartz. Op de voorzijde zie je een buste van een jonge vrouw met een Venetiaans hoofddeksel. In haar hand houdt ze een bol waarop een beeldje staat van een gevleugelde vrouw met een lauwerkrans in de hand. Op de achterzijde staat een pancarte afgebeeld met links en rechts ervan een lauriertak en erboven de gevleugelde leeuw van Venetië met zijn poot op twee tafelen.
