Tussen 1877 en 1912 was hij leraar bedrijfsleer aan de Hogeschool in Wenen en was er tweemaal rector. Deze portretplaquette werd hem door vrienden en kennissen geschonken ter gelegenheid van zijn 70ste verjaardag in 1909. Adolf von Guttenberg a fait ses études à l'Académie royale de Chemnitz et est entré au service de l'État à partir de 1862. Entre 1877 et 1912, il a enseigné les sciences commerciales à l'université des sciences appliquées de Vienne et en a été le recteur à deux reprises. Cette plaque portrait lui a été offerte par des amis et des connaissances à l'occasion de son 70e anniversaire en 1909.
