Flanagan was de ontwerper van de voorzijde van de Washington-munt die sinds 1932 in gebruik is. Andere belangrijke werken van hem zijn de officiële penning van de Panama-Pacific International Exposition van 1915 en de Verdun-medaille, een geschenk van de Verenigde Staten aan Frankrijk ter herdenking van de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Hij maakte diverse portretpenningen van society-figuren. Van deze buste van een sierlijke jonge vrouw met opgestoken haar is echter niet geweten wie de geportretteerde is. John Flanagan (1865-1952) était un médailliste et sculpteur américain qui a travaillé pendant environ cinq ans dans l'atelier de l'artiste Augustus St Gaudens. Flanagan a conçu l'avers de la pièce de Washington utilisée depuis 1932. Parmi ses autres œuvres importantes figurent la médaille officielle de l'Exposition internationale de Panama-Pacifique de 1915 et la médaille de Verdun, cadeau des États-Unis à la France pour commémorer la Première Guerre mondiale. Il a réalisé plusieurs médailles-portraits de personnages de la société. De ce buste d'une gracieuse jeune femme aux cheveux relevés, on ne sait cependant pas qui est la personne représentée. John Flanagan (1865-1952) was an American medallist and sculptor who worked for about five years in the studio of the artist Augustus St Gaudens. Flanagan was the designer of the obverse of the Washington coin in use since 1932. His other important works include the official medal of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition and the Verdun medal, a gift from the United States to France commemorating World War I. He made several portrait medals of society figures.
