Met financiële hulp van koning Ludwig kon er hij in augustus 1876 de eerste opvoering geven. Sindsdien wordt er ieder jaar een zomerfestival gegeven in "Richard Wagner's Festival Theatre" waar zijn eigen werken en die van zijn opvolgers uitgevoerd worden. De uitbating werd lang door de familie Wagner verzorgd. Op de keerzijde van deze portretplaquette van Wagner wordt het theater van Bayreuth afgebeeld. Grâce à l'aide financière du roi Louis, il a pu y donner la première représentation en août 1876. Depuis lors, un festival d'été annuel a lieu au "Théâtre du festival de Richard Wagner", où sont jouées ses propres œuvres et celles de ses successeurs. Elle a longtemps été exploitée par la famille Wagner. Le revers de cette plaque portrait de Wagner montre le théâtre de Bayreuth.
