Het was de eerste vereniging in het genre, na de Watercolor Society, die in 1804 in Groot-Brittannië werd opgericht. Later werden gelijkgezinde verenigingen opgericht in Nederland en Frankrijk. Zoals voor vele kunstkringen weet men niet wanneer de activiteiten zijn stopgezet. Deze plaquette werd uitgegeven ter gelegenheid van de vijftigste verjaardag van de Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes. Ze toont op de voorzijde een man in profiel, met een bijl in de hand. La Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes était une association d'aquarellistes méritants vivant en Belgique et a été fondée à l'initiative de Jean-Baptiste Madou afin d'organiser des expositions d'aquarelles à Bruxelles. Il s'agit de la première association du genre, après la Watercolor Society, fondée en 1804 en Grande-Bretagne. Plus tard, des sociétés partageant les mêmes idées ont été fondées aux Pays-Bas et en France. Comme pour de nombreux cercles artistiques, on ne sait pas quand les activités ont cessé. Cette plaque a été émise à l'occasion du 50e anniversaire de la Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes. Au recto, elle représente un homme de profil, une hache à la main. The Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes was an association of deserving watercolourists living in Belgium and was founded on the initiative of Jean-Baptiste Madou in order to organise watercolour exhibitions in Brussels. It was the first association in the genre, after the Watercolor Society, founded in 1804 in Great Britain. Later, like-minded societies were founded in the Netherlands and France.
