Hij werd lid van de Commissie in 1908. Naar aanleiding van deze benoeming en wegens zijn grote verdienste in de voorbije jaren, werd hij geportretteerd in deze ereplaquette. In 1912 werd het werkterrein van de Koninklijke Commissie voor Monumenten uitgebreid met de sectie Landschappen, waardoor haar naam wijzigde in Koninklijke Commissie voor Monumenten en Landschappen. Antoine Toussaint Emile Massaux commence sa carrière à l'âge de 17 ans à la Commission royale des monuments, qui avait été créée le 7 janvier 1835 par Léopold Ier. Il devient membre de la Commission en 1908. À l'occasion de cette nomination et en raison de ses grands mérites au cours des années précédentes, il a été représenté par cette plaque d'honneur. En 1912, le champ d'action de la Commission royale des monuments a été élargi pour inclure la section des paysages, changeant son nom en Commission royale des Monuments et des Sites.
