Later doceerde hij analytische scheikunde om in 1892 over te schakelen naar het onderricht in de algemene scheikunde van de mineralen. Hij ging op rust in 1921. Samen met zijn collega Jules Demaret-Freson vierde hij in 1907 zijn 25-jarig leraarschap. Godfried Devreese graveerde voor beiden een portretpenning, maar te oordelen naar de datum vermeld op de voorzijde (1908) werd deze slechts enige tijd na de verjaardag overhandigd. Victor Joseph Mirland était professeur de chimie, de métallurgie et de science des matériaux à Mons. Il a ensuite enseigné la chimie analytique avant de passer à l'enseignement de la chimie générale des minéraux en 1892. Il a pris sa retraite en 1921. Avec son collègue Jules Demaret-Freson, il a fêté ses 25 ans d'enseignement en 1907. Godfried Devreese a gravé une médaille portrait pour eux deux, mais à en juger par la date mentionnée sur l'avers (1908), elle n'a été présentée que quelque temps après l'anniversaire.
