In 1884 en 1889 stelde De Vigne als invité tentoon bij Les XX. De beeldhouwer vertoefde vaak in het gezelschap van bevriende kunstenaars. Van zijn contacten getuigen enkele portretten door en van hem. In zijn werk combineerde hij een realistische weergave met een klassieke gratie die hij bewonderde in de sculptuur van de Italiaanse renaissance. Hier beeldhouwt hij een buste van zijn stadgenoot, de schilder Lieven De Winne. Na De Winnes plotse overlijden bracht De Vigne hulde aan zijn vriend met het beeld Onsterfelijkheid uit 1881. Paul De Vigne a reçu l'enseignement de son oncle Félix De Vigne, de Théodore Canneel et de son père Pierre De Vigne, puis a poursuivi ses études à l'Académie d'Anvers avec Jozef Geefs. En 1884 et 1889, De Vigne a exposé en tant qu'invité aux XX. Le sculpteur séjournait souvent en compagnie d'artistes amis. Plusieurs portraits de et par lui témoignent de ses contacts. Dans son œuvre, il a combiné une représentation réaliste avec une grâce classique qu'il admirait dans la sculpture de la Renaissance italienne. Il y sculpte un buste de son concitoyen, le peintre Lieven De Winne. Après la mort soudaine de De Winne, De Vigne a rendu hommage à son ami avec la sculpture Immortalité de 1881.
