Dit werk leverde hem de vriendschap van de vorst en talrijke officiële opdrachten op. Na een periode van bezinning, in 1882/83, specialiseerde hij zich in de uitvoering van borstbeelden van persoonlijkheden uit de gegoede kringen die hij frequenteerde. Zijn portretten zijn vaak vergeleken met die van de Franse 18e eeuw, vooral in de manier waarop Vinçotte omgaat met plooien en draperieën. In 1889 presenteerde hij op de Gentse Salon een expressiekop die zich onderscheidde van zijn meer mondaine productie. Hier toonde Vinçotte zich origineler en persoonlijker dan in andere aspecten van zijn werk. Diepliggende ogen, een gezicht met energieke trekken en een zekere arrogantie in de houding van het hoofd kenmerken deze fantasiebuste. Voor dit hooghartige gezicht schreef een criticus "het lijkt wel het hoofd van Catilina", sindsdien draagt het beeld deze titel. En 1880, Vinçotte réalise le portrait du roi Léopold II. Cette œuvre lui vaut l’amitié du souverain et de nombreuses commandes officielles. Après une période de réflexion, en1882/83, il va se spécialiser dans l’exécution de bustes de personnalités de la bonne société qu’il fréquente assidûment. On a souvent assimilé ses portraits à ceux du 18e siècle français en particulier pour la manière de traiter plis et draperies. En 1889, il présente, au Salon de Gand, une tête d’expression qui se distancie de sa production plus mondaine, Vinçotte s’avère ici plus original et plus personnel que dans d’autres aspects de son œuvre. Des yeux profondément enfoncés, un visage aux traits énergiques, une certaine arrogance de port de la tête caractérisent ce buste de fantaisie. Devant ce visage altier, un critique écrira « on dirait la tête de Catilina », depuis lors la sculpture porte ce titre. In 1880, Vinçotte made a portrait of King Leopold II. This work earned him the friendship of the sovereign and numerous official commissions.
