De manier waarop hij de preekstoel voor de Jezuïetenkerk, waaruit dit marmer afkomstig is, benadert, verschilt van degene die hij gerealiseerd heeft voor de Sint Baafskathedraal. Hier heeft de beeldhouwer enkel het beeld van Sint Lieven gemaakt, zonder de rest van de kansel die in mahoniehout uitgevoerd werd. Dat werk werd aan een specialist toevertrouwd. De houding van de heilige verwijst naar het doek van Rubens dat boven het hoofdaltaar van de kerk prijkte. Het spel van de draperingen en de torsie van het lichaam van de heilige tonen barokke kenmerken in een tijd waar die stijl verdrongen wordt door een nieuw classicisme dat trouwens terug te vinden is in het latere werk van de kunstenaar Laurent Delvaux est l’un des plus grands sculpteurs de nos régions au cours du 18e siècle. Son approche de la chaire de vérité de l’Eglise des Jésuites de Gand dont provient ce marbre est différente de celle exécutée pour la cathédrale Saint-Bavon. Ici, le sculpteur n’a réalisé que la statue de Saint Liévin en extase et n’a pas pris en charge la réalisation de l’ensemble du meuble qui était de bois d’acajou. La menuiserie étant laissé à un artisan spécialisé. L’attitude du saint est inspirée de la toile de Rubens qui ornait le maître-autel de l’église. Le jeu des draperies, la torsion du corps du saint gardent des réminiscences baroques à un moment ou ce style est déjà supplanté par une tendance au classicisme qui ira s’affirmant dans les œuvrestardives du sculpteur. Laurent Delvaux is one of our greatest sculptors of the 18th century. The way in which he approached the pulpit for the Jesuits' church, from which this marble comes, differs from the one he made for the Saint Bavo’s Cathedral. Here the sculptor only made the statue of Saint Lieven, without the rest of the pulpit which was made of mahogany. That work was entrusted to a specialist. The pose of the saint refers to the canvas by Rubens that adorned the main altar of the church.
